Another Week Goes By

So my second week of school has passed. It went much more quickly than the first, thankfully. :) This next week I have my first final in epidemiology. It has been a boring class mostly because the professor is as boring as the material. Thankfully, its only a three week course. So the most eventful thing that happened to me this week was on Thursday, which has been our busiest day at school. That morning I fell into my old habits of sleeping in, unfortunately, much sooner than I was hoping, ans woke up five minutes before I needed to be to school. I ran out the door and made it to class late but before anything important had happened. Just after lunch I looked down and saw...
that I'm an idiot. Since I always enjoy laughing at myself, I told my good friend Kevin so he could laugh too. Other than Kevin no one noticed, until five o clock as I was walking out the door. I also shared a picture of this with a few people over text. The best part of the whole situation came when I told my friend Brooke from Dr. Mirci's office that this was part of our dress code at school and she believed me. :) Thanks for the laugh, Brooke. Anyway, other than that it has been a good week. I hope that you all have been doing well and I love you. Ryan

So that up there was the most exciting thing that happened to me all week also:). It was so funny when Ryan came home and showed me, I had to take a picture of it. I did get two interviews for some stores at the mall though. I know it's not that great of work, but for now, it's something. I've applied at every bank, insurance company, hospital and store in Cleveland. Needless to say the economy isn't doing that great here. I will keep the faith and know that Heavenly Father will bless me soon:). I also have been enjoying planning what to get my best friend Julie, she told me she's having a girl!!! yay. I'm excited for her. They did an invitro procedure and it worked obviously:). Anyway, that's about all that's going on my little part of the world. I love you all. Hope y'all are doing great. My older sister Shawna and her husband Scott have been trying to adopt for awhile now. They have been married for nine years and have been trying to have a family of their own pretty much since they got married. Well circumstances being what they are, they must adopt to make that dream come true for them. They need your help in getting the word out that they are adopting. Our Week (1 down, 143 to go)

So another week has gone by. Ryan started classes on monday, so needless to say it's been a bit boring for me, ya know, cause I don't have a job yet. But I am enjoying this time. I've been exploring Cleveland and there are a lot of really neat things around here. I love Little Italy. It's a town that's like a little Italy, go figure:). There is a lot of shops and restaurants and Italian people.:) I'll post some pictures of it soon. Also, down the street a little ways is a store called Trader Joe's which I just love! It's an organic grocery store but the prices are a lot cheaper than normal organic stores. Anyway, The weather is awesome! so far:). It rains a lot, which I love. The rain storms are very different than in Utah. It POURS! It's like in the movies when people stand out in the rain and are soaked in five seconds. I used to think that was fake. It's not. I also love the evenings when the sun has just gone down. There are fireflies everywhere. There's always a nice breeze and it smells so good, especially if it has just rained. And there was this sound that I've never heard before coming from the corner of our yard. I thought it was a bird of some sort, but tonight my friend Diane and I discovered that they're small toads. I wanted to catch one because they are so cute! But I thought that would be rude to take it from it's home:). We went to another Indians game with some of Ry's friends from school. It was really fun. They won, because again we were there:). It was great to get to know Ry's friends and their spouses. So far it's been better than I thought, being here. There is a lot to keep my mind off of my homesickness. But I still get it. So just know that I am thinking about all of you and love you so much. I'll stop talking so Student Dr. Ryan can add his two cents. Love you, Bye.

So school started for real finally. For me it has felt like our three weeks here before school started have been 3 months. This week felt like 3 months all on its own. Not that school has been bad, cause it hasn't... I'm just going to have to get used to eight hours of class everyday. It will be different. Monday we had truly eight hours of class two of which we were doing hands on stuff so that was nice. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we had two hours worth of "independent study" which was taken up mostly by CPR trainings and other things similar. We didn't get a whole lot of study time and I am hoping that we will get more from now on. I promised myself and Kristy that I would break my bad habit of not studying and cramming everything in at the last minute. I have done well at least for this week and better keep it up because after my eight hour days I had about 2 to 3 more hours of homework this week and we just started. I will need everything I have to keep up. But I've been getting to know some people in my class and that helps. Going to the Indians game last night was awesome. Its good to chill with some calssmates outside of class and get to know them and their spouses. Not to mention that the Tribe won. A lot of our time is dedicated to what they call PBL or problem based learning, I won't bore you all with the details of it but basically I'm in a group of eight people and we break up the material we are responsible for learning and all do a lot of research then share our results with each other. I wasn't sure how well the whole thing was going to work until I saw it in action this week and I was amazed at how much information we put together and learned from the process. So it begins and I'm excited. I know that soon enough the time will be flying and finals will be bearing down on top of me. It is just nice to finally be doing what I've been dreaming of for so many years. Thanks go to all of you who encouraged me and supported me. Hope all is well with you. Oh and despite my repeated objections to it, it looks like I'm falling into being a Browns fan (not more than the Cowboys, no need to worry mom), it is contagious here. Love you all. Ry

Call me Student Dr. Jones!

Today was an event like one you have never witnessed in your entire life!!! It was the day Ryan received his White Coat and took the Oath of Ethics!! It was so amazing!! I couldn't contain myself. It was like that time we went to a Dashboard Confessional concert and couldn't stop screaming. Just teasing, it was a really nice day. The White Coat Ceremony, as it was called, was held in a church on campus. The whole class was called up one by one to receive their coat. Now Ryan wants everyone to start calling him Student Dr. Jones. He thinks he's so funny. I think he's lame:) Just kidding. So, they had a reception afterward with food and an open champagne/wine bar and i was going to get Ryan some punch and spike it with wine, hee hee. I had to spice it up somehow, it was kind of posh, not my kind of thing.:) I met some people in Ryan's class and their wives. It was really nice to get to know the people Ryan will be spending his time with. And us dental student widows can hang out. Ryan got all of his torture tools (drills and such) today. He was very excited about that. It was like Christmas for him. NERD!! I'm still looking for a job, well I'm finally starting to look for one. I'm not too excited about that. I don't know anyone who likes to job hunt. Anyway, I'm not too good at this whole blogging thing, so I'll end here. Now entering Tribe Country!!

Well after nearly three weeks in Cleveland we are finally getting our blog up and going as promised. We've enjoyed our time here; it has felt like a vacation for both of us. Now that school has started for Ryan and once I get a job, it will feel more like we live here. The weather hasn't been as bad as either of us expected. It's humid and gets hot, especially in our little house since we don't have air conditioning. Yuck!! Thank goodness we have a fan:). Speaking of our house, we LOVE it!!! It's actually a house they've converted into upstairs and downstairs apartments. We live on the first floor. It's an old house and it is so pretty. It's in a really nice neighborhood. It's bigger than any apartment we've been in:). There is a little room in the back where Ryan has set up his "office" where he can study. We just love it. The fact that our house is awesome helps a lot with the homesickness we often feel. The first week we were here was too busy to think about anything but moving in an unpacking and such, but now that we're all settled in the homesickness is starting to creep in. I hope I can find a job really soon so that my time will be occupied before I start school. Oh yeah, I'm going to register for massage therapy school. I'm really excited about that. I finally made up my mind about what I want to do so, YAY!! So we are starting to settle and get going with life. To change the subject, This past week has been a long one for both of us. I flew home for five days because my grandpa passed away. I wish I could have gone home for a happier reason, but I'm so glad I was able to be there for his funeral. He is a wonderful man and I'm going to miss him so much. I never really knew him as much as I wanted to. He's a man of few words. At the funeral my dad and all of his brothers and sisters shared some memories of grandpa and I didn't want them to stop. I loved hearing about how much of a hard worker he was and how much he loves his family. It was an amazing tribute to a wonderful man and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. I love my grandpa. He will be greatly missed. Despite that, it was really good to be home and be with my family. I really really wish Ryan could have gone with me. I missed him so much. Ryan started school on Monday the 4th. It's just orientation this week. He starts the real stuff next monday. There is a White Coat Ceremony this friday. That's where he gets his white coat in preperation for him to be a doctor (Docta Jones! Docta Jones!:)). It's a special ceremony and I'll post pictures of it. We went to an Indians game two weeks ago. It was Ryan's first game and my first ever pro anything game. We were up in the Cheap Seats. The players looked tiny. But it was a really good game and they of course won, because we were there. I told the coach to tell the players that this was my husbands first game so they better win. They made us proud:) There was an amazing fireworks show after the game. It was such a fun night. We've officially entered the tribe.:) We can't think of anything else right now, so we'll post again later. Love you and miss you all!!!!!
