We wish we could steal from the Museum!

Ryan and I had not one plan when the weekend came. We sat and looked at each other and kept asking each other "So what you wanna do?", until we were driven crazy. It was a rainy Friday night, so we had to do something indoors. We wanted to do something that we'd never done before. We heard that the art museum at Case was very good, so we finally decided to go there. There is a special exhibit called "Artistic Luxury" which featured sculptures, vases, jewelry, and more. Each piece was done with either precious gems, glass, ivory, gold, silver, and enamel. Or all of them at once. It was fantastic. The pieces were done by Faberge (he did the famous easter eggs which were beautiful!), Tiffany and Co., and Lalique. They dated back to 1900 and late 1800's. We had so much fun. We were so amazed at the jewelry and sculptures. I couldn't believe how much gold and silver they used. There was a vanity table with a chair and the whole thing was made of silver, except the cushion on the chair and the mirror of course. One piece, entitled "The Holy Grail", was one of the most elaborate. It was made of gold and stood at least two feet tall. It had so many different jewels and was so decorated, that at first it was hard to tell that it was a goblet at all. In the middle of the handle was set a HUGE diamond. Easily over 40 karrats. We couldn't take pictures of it, and we couldn't find any on line. But we found some pictures of pieces that were featured there. This is a chalice that stands about two feet and that is made out of about 23 pounds of gold. Ryan figured it to be worth about $375,000 if you melted down the gold. That isn't including the jewels and artistic value. The Holy Grail goblet was much bigger and more decorated than this, just to give you and idea. This necklace was made by Tiffany and Co. Made circa 1900. The one on the right is a hair comb. The leaves are gold and inlaid with diamonds, the comb is turtle shell and the flower is carved ivory. It was also made by Tiffany and Co. and was dated circa 1900. We saw so many neat and priceless things. There was a glass bowl from 100 AD. I was amazed it had survived so long. We wanted to stay there all night, but we went before dinner and we were getting hungry. We went to Little Italy to this place called Valentino's and had the best meatball sandwich ever. It was a fun night. Saturday we hung out with Diane and Joe and that was fun, as it always is. Today was stake conference and (please don't judge), we didn't go. Instead we slept in and relaxed a little. We went to another park and took a walk and I tried my photography skills again. So here are some pictures I took at the Beachwood Park. I love Cleveland. We had such a fun day today. We went to one of the MANY parks in Cleveland and took pictures of the changing leaves. There are more trees here than I'm used to and the brilliant colors were such beautiful things to see. I loved it. There's going to be a lot more leaves on the ground than this in a couple weeks, because as you can see, it's still pretty green. There is a really pretty creek that runs through the park. The floor of the creek is all rock. There's no mud or dirt. It was interesting, and very pretty. Here I am wanting to jump in. There was a deep part and it looked fun. But I was a little cold and I'm sure the water wouldn't be any warmer, so I didn't jump. It would have been fun though. We enjoyed walking down the trail and seeing the wildlife(squirrels and chipmunks, mostly:)) It was peaceful and beautiful. I was feeling a little down the other daybecause I knew I was missing all the splendor in the canyons back at home, but this was almost as beautiful and it cheered me right up! There are just so many trees and they are huge!!! Ryan and I are doing well. Ryan took another test this friday. He was a little nervous about this one. He said he probably did well. He'll know by monday. He has another test on Wednesday. The professor for that class isn't that great, so he's had to pretty much figure things out on his own, with the help of his friends from school of course. But other than that, he's doing well. And he got new shoes! Yay! I'm doing well too. Work was picking up there for awhile, but it's died down again. And I love our ward and the all sisters. Diane and I are quickly becoming really really good friends and I don't know what I'd do without her. She is such a fun and amazing person. I'm very grateful for her.:) I've also been baking a lot more since I got my Kitchen Aid. I love it! I was never really interested in cooking or baking, but now I love it. It's theraputic for me. And Ryan is loving it too:) He finally is getting regular home cooked meals, wahoo!:) Anywho, here's some more pictures from our day. We love you all. Ryan's holding a leaf. He was trying to cross the creek but the rock was slippery. So that's as far as he got. I made him stop. I didn't want him to fall.

That's not funny

So, This weekend has been soooooo lazy for us. I had really good intentions to clean our house and go for walks around the beautiful parks here and visit some friends...yeah, I didn't do any of that. Well I did some. I cleaned the kitchen:), and I went and hung out with Diane while Ryan was at priesthood. I love you Diane!!! Thanks for watching that sad movie with me, I don't think I could have done it by myself. Anywho, Ryan and I just watched conference, ate, hung out, and ate some more. I think I gained about 50 pounds. I don't know why we ate so much. I also realized that I laugh at really stupid stuff sometimes. I've been doing that a lot lately. I laugh at stupid comercials and jokes. Ryan and I rented some movies on friday. One was Mr. Deeds. That one was ok, it had it's funny parts. The other one was, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. It was probably one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen, and yet I laughed SO hard!! At first I was bored out of my ever lovin mind, but then I just started laughing and laughing, and it wasn't late and I wasn't tired. I don't know what's going on with me! I don't think a normal person would laugh as hard as I did at that movie. And last night, Diane's husband Joe showed me this SNL clip with this lady who kept saying "just kidding" and talking really fast and I was laughing my head off. Maybe I'm going insane or something. I don't know. But then I heard Elder Wirthin's talk about laughing and I feel a little bit better. Conference was amazing as usual. I'm so thankful for the technology that allowed us to watch it on the LDS website. I truely have a testimony that all of those men, especially President Monson are called of God. I love hearing their voices; it's comforting to me. The spirit was really working on both Ryan and I. Ryan really enjoyed the priesthood session. He came home with all these goals and was so excited about them. The thing that's so awesome about him, is that he'll complete them all. He always does. We really had a good conference weekend. I love this gospel. I know it's true with all my heart. I know my Savior loves me. He has overcome this world, and I'm so grateful for Him. Another thing that made us happy, is we booked our flight for our Christmas trip home!!!!!!:) I'm so excited! We get two whole weeks in Salt Lake! YAY!!! And, the sun shone all weekend. It's been cloudy and rainy for at least two weeks. I missed the sun. It's been SOO cold here too. Winter is going to be bitter! So now it's back to the grind-work, school, work, school... but we are thankful for it!!:) Oh yeah, the Utes are AMAZING!!! GO UTES!!!!!!

Dental Nerd Alert! (Feel Free to Skip This Post)

So I brought home some of my lab projects that I have been working on and was going to post them proudly, and just before I signed in I went and looked at my friend Matt's blog only to see that he beat me to the punch and posted pictures of his already. Not only did he beat me but he one upped me by having done a lot more teeth at his school that we have done here at Case. But thats ok, if I have to be one upped I will never be upset to be second to Matt. So the first picture here is of my first competency wax up. With the competencies we have three hours to start from scratch and they have us put different colored wax on different parts to assure that you do the work during the alotted time and not earlier. On this tooth I got a 85/95, which I was very happy with. I think that they were a little generous, but I'll take it. We do this in conjunction with our dental anatomy class. It really helps solidify the stuff we learn to recreate it in wax. The next pictures are of the canine which I did in about six hours (it wasn't a competency, just practice). This one turned out really good and I was proud of it. I got 100% on the informal evaluation. Dr. Mirci had me waxing before we came out here and I did a little of it in the dental lab too, so thats a bit of a help. It is really fun and relaxing to chill in the lab and make these teeth. Its is rewarding when you make a few little adjustments and it all of the sudden starts to look right. The smallest things can throw off how it looks. Anyway, here are a couple more pictures of this tooth and I'll wrap it up. One thing they want to see is that there is a "distal pinch" or a concavity on the facial side toward the pre-molar. Well, I'm done boring you... the two of you who actually read all of this post. Thanks for humoring me. I'll post some more pictures maybe when I do more, but I'll save the long dialogue. Other than that I have some tests coming up and am trying to prepare myself for those. We are getting more and more into actual dental stuff, which has been a long time coming it seems sometimes. I still cannot believe that September is winding down already. The semester is nearly half over and it feels like we just started. Every Friday the kid I carpool with and I are amazed at how quickly the week slips by. Soon enough we will be back in Utah for Christmas. There is still a lot to do between now and then, but I see it knocking on the door. Crazy how it happens. We love you and hope you all keep in touch. Ryan

I've been living with a Yeti!!

So I know that I just posted yesterday; what can I say, I just love this blogging thing! I can't get enough!!!! Speaking about birthdays:), mine was fabulous! I just have the best husband in the world. He made the day so special. First he took me on a shopping spree to get some new work clothes. It was so much fun shopping with him. I'm not a good shopper and I never know what looks good together, and Ryan, being a guy, doesn't either, but we were able to get some good shopping done. And it was just awesome being together for the whole day! Then Ryan took me out to dinner at this place called Stir Crazy, which is my favorite place to eat here (so far). We got home and web cam'd with my family while I opened presents and blew out candles on the birthday cake Ryan made for me, from scratch! It was just such a fun birthday. I got a Kitchen Aid!!! I've always wanted one, and I got one:)! It's purple, which makes it even better. I know it's kinda silly being excited over a kitchen aid, Only those who have used one can truly appreciate the kitchen aid:) My wonderful mother sent me a package and inside was a new jacket, a dress and some cupcakes with my favoirte german choclate frosting. There were also balloons and confetti inside. She is just the best mom. She always makes everything so special, even when she is so far away. My mother-in-law is also wonderful. I seriously am so blessed with the awesome in-laws I have:) She sent me some clinique stuff, which I love! I had a great birthday:) Anywho,As the weeks have gone by, I've realized that my husbands hair has been getting longer and longer. His hair doesn't really grow down, it grows out, like an afro. He's turned into a Yeti. He bought some clippers today, because we decided it would be cheaper if I just cut it. Although, I've never cut hair in my life. Needless to say, I was a little nervous as I got the clippers out. Ryan, having complete faith in me, plopped himself down on a chair, put on the haircutting cape, and patiently showed me how to cut hair. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. It's definately not as nice as what my sister Shawna would do, but it's decent. Ryan likes it anyway. Goodbye yeti, hello Ryan. Where have you been? I've missed you. Don't let that scared face fool you. He wasn't afraid at all!!:)


Hi this is Ryan. Kristy says that I wasn't scared at all, but what does this face right here -----> say about being scared? Looks pretty scared to me. I guess I was jsut prepared to buzz the whole thing if she sneezed or something. I might have been thinking about my new calling in that picture and that made me scared. I've been asked, not officially called or anything since it isn't an actual Church thing, to coach/captain the ward volleyball team in an interfaith league. There are no real ward sports here so we join a community rec league for stuff and the bishop usually coached the team but since he is now bishop he doesn't have the time and asked me to do it. I'm totally freaked out since my volleyball knowledge of actual strategy and plays and such is not great. he informed me that it is pretty competitive and that all the players from previous years have either moved or are in the other ward from the last boundary change. He also informed me that they usually win or take 2nd place. Yikes! Other than that school is good. Boring so far but at least there is a littl ebit of tooth related material in the curriculum. I am doing well and have some more tests coming up in two weeks or so. The weeks just fly by. The other thing that happened to me this week is that I lost my phone, like a freaking idiot. I was so upset with myself for losing it and I have no clue how I lost it, if I knew I could probably find it eh? So luckily I had insurance on the thing and a new one will only cos tme $50 that I could have spent on something better than a new phone, but maybe it will learn me to be more responsible. Enough whining. I am really happy these days, other than about the phone thing, and am super excited to play some volleyball. Hope it all works out ok. I love you all and miss everyone.

Birthdays, Autumn, and Thousand Dollar Readers

So this blog entry is guaranteed to be a lot more cheery than last time, with one exception... those things Ryan has on his head(loupes, as they are technically termed), cost us a thousand bucks!! Sheesh!!! They don't ask much from us poor college students, do they? But the loupes do make looking at teeth a whole heck of a lot easier. It's better for the back; you don't have to bend down so much. Isn't my husband hot!!:) So we've had some good times this week. Mostly just hangin out, just the two of us. We've actually had to stay indoors all week. It's been soooo stormy! It rained and rained and rained and rained. Sunday the wind was so hard, it was like a hurricane. I've never seen wind blow that hard before. It kind of scared me. Tree branches were getting broken off, the power went out. Some neighborhoods still don't have power yet. It was actually the left overs from hurricane Ike. It made it's way all the way up here. It died down significantly, of course. I couldn't imagine being in a full blown hurricane. That would be so terrifying. Anywho, our neighbors, the Mirci's, had a birthday party for their daughter last week. She turned one!:) She is the cutest little girl. She has the cutest little laugh and she makes me happy just looking at her. It was so cute, she just stared at her birthday cake for a while then her mom put some frosting in her mouth. It was pretty much demolished after that. It was funny watching her. She really didn't eat that much of it. She just had fun squishing it up. I just love her! I love all of their kids. So I can't say no when Diane asks me to tend them. My Birthday is coming up this Saturday and I'm SOOO tempted to squish my cake up like that. It looked like so much fun. ha ha:) It's probably not age appropriate for someone who is turning 29, though. Darn it! Ah, 29. What can I say. Only one more year of being in my 20's. I'm not really as freaked out as I thought I would be. Just talk to me in a year from now, hee hee:).
This is me and Diane, mom of the birthday girl and one of my really good friends. She has been such a saving grace for me. She is the cutest thing ever and I'm so grateful for her. And so grateful she's just next door.

I saw this tree close to our house and was surprised that the leaves were already starting to change. It got me very excited for fall. I love fall. It's my favorite season. Mostly because of the fall fashions, but I just love the cozy feeling I get. It's going to be great seeing the all the leaves change, ya know, because there are THOUSANDS of trees here. I love it!

Ryan is so hot! I can't stand it. His loupes flip up so that he can see normally when he isn't dentisting:). I just love him so much. I'm so proud of him.

As if my eyes weren't big enough, hee hee:). As for Ryan, he's doing really well. He passed his tests with greater than 85% and is very excited about that:). He also found a new game called "fantastic contraption" on the internet. He's addicted to it. Quite a waste of time if you ask me:). Well that was our exciting week. Peace out! ~Kristy Lynn~

Feeling a tad Blue...

So the last few days have been a litte bit hard for me. I know I should be grateful; I have a wonderful husband who I'm completely in love with, I have a good job with an accounting firm with clients such as Vijay Singh and Camilo Villegas(awesome:)), I've met some very wonderful people. It's just that, I'm not home. I can't really call this place home yet. I miss the mountains and the beautiful canyons and the fact that there are temples at least 20 minutes away from anywhere you are. I really really really really miss my family! There are times when I just want to pack some clothes and my husband and just drive home. And Ryan and I are still having trouble having kids. That makes me really sad. I want to be a mother more than anything in this world. I always have. I know Heavenly Father will bless us, I'm just being selfish and wanting things happen according to my time table. I know I just have to have faith and know that He loves me and will bless me. I know it will happen someday:). Anyway, with me being homesick and not having children and the fact that our stupid landlord won't let us get a dog(LAME!!), Ryan wanted to do something to cheer me up. So he decided to take me to the store and let me pick out a computer with a web cam so that I can see my family!!!! So I got this beautiful lap top...AAAAAhhhh!(that's like a choir singing, not someone screaming, just thought I'd clear that up). So I've already webcam-ed with Kelly and Andrew, and it was AWESOME to see their wonderful faces.:) So I'm super excited about that. I'm sorry for the downer entry, I just had to vent:). I think Heavenly Father lets us have these blue days so that we can understand and help others who have blue days. I just want to say to my amazing mother, father, Shawna, Scott, Kelly, Andrew, Clair, Denise, Michael, Jennifer, Jason, Cassie, Jessie, and Carston that I love you all so very much! I miss you! Thank you for being such an amazing family and for making my life so very happy:). Heavenly Father has blessed me so much, I can't believe I even deserve it. But I'm grateful for y'all( I put that in for you ,kel and andrew:)). Thanks for cheering me up! I also want to say that I have the most amazing husband...EVER! He is my best friend and I'm so grateful that we are sealed together forever! I think he's the only one who can deal with my crazy!:) He makes me laugh everyday, and I love him so much:). Anywho, to my friends and family who are reading this, I love you and miss you. Thanks for being so wonderful:)

The answer is... Of Course!!! Ry and I were bored one day, so I pulled out the camera and started taking pictures of him. It was fun:) Anywho, This week was a good one for us. I got a new job. Hallelujah!!!!!! It's at an accounting firm. I'll be helping put taxes together and answering the attorney's phone calls, basically I'll be a secretary. Just like my mom:) I love you mom:). Just be prepared for all my phone calls asking what in the world to do:). We've been doing well all in all. Something very exciting happened this weekend; our nephew Carston was born on friday the 5th:) We are so excited!!! We love being an aunt and an uncle and we can't wait to see our new nephew. Our family emailed some pictures of him. He's so adorable. They have two girls, so he will be an exciting new addition to their family. We miss them so much and wish we could have been there to see him. But come Christmas, we will have him all to ourselves:) We can't wait! So, I only have one more week of no work and while I'm excited to start my new job, I'll miss all the free time I've had. I really enjoyed just being a housewife and making my own schedule:) Probably the only time that will ever happen(meaning, I hopefully will start having babies soon). It was great. But now I have be responsible and go out and work. Blah! But really I am very grateful for this blessing. We really needed it. We still haven't recieved any student loan money, so it's nice to be assured of some income. We really have been blessed here. Although we miss our family terribly, we have met some really great people who have helped make it so much easier to be so far away. We've done stuff with friends pretty much every weekend and we've LOVED it. Well I guess I should let Ryan get in some blogging. We love you all. ~Kristy~

So no pictures from me since I forgot to plug in the camara. Well I will find out early this week if I passed my first test or not, I think I did, but you can never be sure. Tomorrow I have another test that is not for a grade but we need to get a sixty percent in order to take the final so it still important. It shouldn't be too difficult. So I kept us busy this weekend. We went out with our friends Joe and Diane Mirci on friday to a place called Dave and Buster's. Its like adult Chucky Cheese. We were funny being ticket grubbers for prizes like we were little kids. It was so much fun. Good company makes the night that much better. That could be the theme for our weekend, really. Saturday night we had some of my friends from school and their wives over for pizza and some Wii, then we went bowling. I rolled a 185 the first game and then the lanes broke down and my buddy Kevin started giving me a run for the money. He won the second game and had a six pin lead on the series. I found a shot in the 3rd game and ended up squeaking out the series win by seven pins, and bowled around a 155 average which is where I usually am. Kevin, my good friend from school, and I got thinking that we need to try to get on a league together sometime. We had a hard time finding a bowling alley and the one I finally tracked down turned out to be in a rough neighborhood. Once we got inside though we were fine. There was basically no one there and the bowling was cheap. Kristy and I felt comfortable enough to go back there. Then tonight we had some more friends over from the ward to play games and we taught them Puerto Rico, but spent far more time talking than playing, which is how games are best. We had a great time chatting and everytime they tried to sneak out we would start talking more; I'm sure they felt like they were stuck for a while :) That waas sarcastic, but there is probably more truth to that than I'd like to admit:) To top off a great weekend with friends, nephews, and fun; my Utes won and the Cowboys won. Could it get any better? Well I should probably shove off to sleep. Sorry I get so long winded, you know me (especially when I'm tired). Love you all. Ry

Our trip to Kirtland

Ryan and I haven't had a chance to visit this beautiful spot since we got out here, so Labor Day gave us a wonderful opportunity to do so. And we are so glad that we did. I guess I'm just not that great at my Church History but I had no idea what wonderful things happened here(and not so wonderful). We started our day by going to the visitors center that the church owns. They purchased the Newel K. Whitney store and the land around it. They renovated it and did a wonderful job. Our tour guides were a senior missionary couple from Colorado and we loved them. They were so nice. Anyway, we started out at the visitors center and watched a movie about Newel K. Whitney and his wife and how they came to be members of the church. Newel was later called to be a bishop. He owned the general store there in Kirtland and was very prosperous. Joseph and Emma needed a place to live so Newel and his wife turned the upstairs of their store into a make shift apartment for them. They lived there for a year and a half.
This was their room. This was the only private space they had. Joseph and Emma had a very hard time in Kirtland, which is an understatement. They lived with the Whitney's for six weeks. Then they moved out to the Morley Farm, which is about two miles west of Kirtland, and lived there for six months. Then they moved out to the John Johnson Farm and were there for one year. Joseph was tarred and feathered there so needless to say they needed a safer place to live. That's when they moved above the store. After they lived there they finally were able to get a house and they lived there for four years. Whew! I've always been amazed at how much that man was able to suffer. He truely is a prophet of God! Many wonderful things happened at the Newel K. Whitney store. Right across the hall from the room Joseph and Emma had, was a room they called the School of the Prophets. Here is where they held meetings, had lessons in mathematics, history, geography,etc., learned hebrew, and was the very first MTC. The revelation for the Word of Wisdom took place here. This room was also where Joseph washed the feet of his apostles. You can feel the spirit so strong when you enter this room. The Lord refered to this room as holy, His house, all words you would associate with the temple. It's a special room. Here's me sitting on a bench in that room. Ryan felt a little weird taking a picture of it because it was like taking a picture in the temple, but I said it was ok. Anywho, we really enjoyed our day. There's more but I won't bore you all with long explanations with every picture, so I'll just post them and give you a taste of Kirtland. You'll have to come out and visit us if you want the full story! Hee Hee. This is the saw mill where they did the woodwork for the temple. This is us in front of the Newel K. Whitney store. I look like a dork!This the very table where Joseph Smith sat. It's also above the Whitney store. He translated the Book of Abraham here, and recieved revelations. There's a little sign that says not to touch it, but I did anyway. I couldn't help it.
Ryan was amazed that this leaf was bigger than my hand so he had to get a picture of it. It was an awesome plant. It's on the grounds of the temple. The Community of Christ Church owns it now. They do a wonderful job with the grounds and the temple. It was beautiful. We got there too late to take a tour through their visitors center and the temple, but we got to just walk around and take pictures and such. We're going again next Saturday so I'll post pictures of the inside of the temple when we go again. It really is such beautiful country here. Living in the big city, I forget what we're in the middle of. When you get outside of the city it's just open and so green and lush and beautiful. I love it! I really miss the mountains and how majestic they are, but this is a different kind of beauty, one I'm not used to. I didn't have to grow to love it, like I'm still growing to love the city, I fell in love with it immediately. I'm so grateful that I have the chance to live here and experience this different kind of nature. Ryan said that it's interesting that every time God the Father has appeared to man, it's been outside in all the beauty. I know why. It's something I can't really explain without taking up a lot more blog space. I'll just say this, those of you who have been outside somewhere that you think is beautiful and have felt the peace that only the spirit can bring, know what I mean. I guess I'll end it here:). Thank goodness!!!! I leave you with a picture of Ryan and I in front of the Kirtland Temple(even though the only thing you can see of the temple is the window). We love you all.
